First Lesson

Today, We started work on the practical side of the AS Media course. The main part of this is to plan and eventually produce the opening to a horror film.
Before we did that, we had to film and edit a 30 second preliminary task. This is so we would get to grips the technology we would be using, and to ensure we can efficiantly use basic filmmaking techniques.
The task required me to film a person entering a room, walking across, and exchanging a few lines of dialogue with another character. This short clip had to show effective use of;

Match on action: This is when an editor cuts from one shot to another view that matches the first shot's action. This gives the impression of continuous time when watching a finished piece.

Shot reverse shot: This is when one character is shown looking at another character, and then cuts to the other character looking back at the first character.

180 degree rule: This is when two characters in the same scene should always have the same left/right relationship to each other. If the camera passes over the imaginary axis connecting the two subjects, it is called crossing the line.
